(Mon/Wed classes concurrent with 6-7pm white belt class; small room)
 



 
Maxercise now offers Gracie Self Defense classes. These classes are primarily for new students, but any rank is welcome. We will cover all the basics of the self-defense system, such as wrist grabs, chokes, headlock escapes and more.
 

WHY A SIX WEEK COURSE?

For those interested in self-defense, or to brush up on self-defense techniques learned at a seminar in the past, we will offer a (6) week program for non-members. This program will consist of (6) consecutive Saturdays.
 
Most self-defense "courses" and seminars available today consist of a one-time, several hour scheduled event.  While convenient and admittedly better than nothing, the obvious fallacy to this format for any type of class, much less one that could possibly someday save your life, is that the amount of information retained in the long term is next to nothing.  Having a series of classes allows much more information to sink in.  We have excellent instructors that take a portion of each class to review material from week to week and will be able to answer any questions about other details you may have forgotten. 
 
CONTINUING EDUCATION

Every self defense class is open to current BJJ students - Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.  Any attendee of the six week Saturday course wishing to continue learning can join our family in order to have the same open schedule.  (See our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu page for more information on its close relation to self-defense.) While these classes are generally geared towards the beginner, all ranks are encouraged to attend.  Repetition is your best asset in real-world preparation.  Committing a move to muscle memory is the best chance you have against an adversary if ever actually facing one in the street.  Every little bit of training you can get will be helpful.
